Mitre Footballs - The game's number 1 for decades!

A brand associated with football for many years, Mitre have been producing footballs since 1949 and have introduced some of the most iconic footballs of all time to the beautiful game.  Chances are you will at some stage have played with a Mitre football, whether at home, school or with a team, and there's a high chance for youngsters that their parents (and grandparents) will have played football using the famous brand's footballs.

One of the most famous versions of Mitre footballs was the Delta 1000.  This ball will be instantly recognisable to football fans that grew up in the 1980's as it was the ball that was on the pitch for famous moments like Keith Houchen's diving header against Tottenham Hotspur to win the 1987 FA Cup for Coventry City and Dave Beasant's penalty save from Liverpool's John Aldridge in the Cup Final the following year.  This ball was so iconic, it received the ultimate tribute by being made into a Subbuteo ball!  If you were a child of the '80s, this was the ball to have!

Today the Delta name is carried on with top footballs like the Delta Hyperseam which is the ball used in the English Football League and Scottish Professional Football League and was a follow-on to the successful Mitre Delta v12S, available here for a bargain £25.00 each!

The Ultimax is another of Mitre's famous footballs and was the ball used in the English Premier League between 1995 and 2000.  It achieved the feat of being the first ball to be recorded at over 100mph when in 1996 Sheffield Wednesday's striker David Hirst rattled the crossbar against Arsenal with a shot that registered at 114mph.  This is also the ball that was used when David Beckham rose to fame with his goal from the halfway line against Wimbledon for Manchester United in 1996. Other famous moments using the Mitre Ultimax would be Andy Cole's lob over Ian Walker to secure United's league title in 1999 and Michael Owen scoring his on his debut for Liverpool in 1997, not to mention the hundreds of goals scored by the likes of Shearer, Ferdinand, Wright and Sheringham.

Another icon, the Pro Max was the ball first used when the Premier League was formed in 1992 and in the 3 seasons it was used in the Premiership, Andy Cole, Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham were the famous strikers to finish top scorer.

[caption id="attachment_2054" align="alignleft" width="300"] Used in the Premier League between 1992 and 1995, the classic Pro Max design was a big winner amongst the goalscorers like Cole, Shearer and Sheringham.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2043" align="alignleft" width="300"] Featuring Mitre's Hyperseam stitched/bonded panel technology, the Pro Max Hyperseam is a top quality match ball that performs to expectations every match![/caption]

Today the Pro Max incorporates Mitre's revolutionary Hyperseam technology, which is a ball fused together with a combination of high-tension machine stitches and PU sealed seams which gives the benefits of stitched footballs in terms of accuracy, power and performance to the sturdy consistent feel of a bonded ball.  This means a Hyperseam ball is designed to last longer, move faster and ultimately result in a better playing experience - it won't guarantee you score a Worldy every time though!

[caption id="attachment_2053" align="alignleft" width="300"] Mitre Calcio - a favourite on the training ground for many years![/caption] [caption id="attachment_2044" align="alignleft" width="300"] The Calcio has been revamped for the modern game, using Hyperseam technology to make it better than ever![/caption]

Another ball that uses Hyperseam is the Calcio, a famous name in training footballs through the years.  Calcio (Italian for football) is one of the most popular footballs used by teams through the years and with the Hyperseam technology designed to reduce water intake by 99.9%, it is lighter than ever before.
